American officials have admitted that the US air strike on south Somalia had missed its main target of three senior al-Qaida members, The Independent reports.
On Friday, US officials had widely advertised that the attack had been ”surgical”. Its aim was to kill three men allegedly involved with the bombing of the US embassy in Nairobi in 1998.
At least ten people have been killed in the raid. American officials have recognized that neither Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, the alleged mastermind behind the bombing, nor his two accomplices are among the victims.
A controversy is now rising as local Somali officials claim the ten casualties were civilians. US officials deny, insisting the people killed were all Islamist allies of Al-Qaida.
